This one weekend Seminar includes 20 hours of training

DONA is an acronym for Doulas of North America.

The main purposes of DONA:

•       To certify doulas using international standards

•       To facilitate continuing education

•       To provide communication among doulas, the public, caregivers and other interested parties.

Your certification training will include 20 hours of instruction, including topics such as:

•       Definition of “doula” and research findings on obstetrical outcomes of doula-attended births

•       The emotional and psychological processes of labor and birth

•       Specific suggestions for psychological and emotional support of the woman and her partner(s)

•       Women’s experiences of cesarean birth, vaginal birth after cesarean, and the doula’s role

•       Comfort measures and non-pharmacologic techniques for pain management and labor enhancement

•       The doula’s role with the newborn and initiation of breastfeeding

•       The doula’s role in difficult and complicated labors

•       Appropriate topics for prenatal and postpartum discussion with clients

•       Discussion of ethics and scope of practice for the doula

•       Referral sources for client needs beyond the scope of the doula

•       Communication skills and values clarification

•       Business aspects of a doula practice

•       Information about DONA membership, certification, Standards of Practice, and Code of Ethics

DONA certification requirements: this workshop,a childbirth educator training and attending 3 births.
