PROGRAM OUTLINE

Our program consists of three semesters a year of academic and clinical components. The first two years are comprised of academic classes, which meet 1 three-day weekend a month, with off-site prenatal clinical in March of year one. Students enter their preceptorship in October of their 2nd year. The third year is where students re-gather to examine their experiences in roundtable and attend seminars, while finishing their preceptorship.

Three Year Program

Yr 2 Class 3 days/month enter preceptorship in October
Yr 3 Class 2 days/quarter & preceptorship

LEGALITIES

Direct Entry Midwifery (non-nursing, apprenticeship model) is governed by the individual state or province in which one practices. Laws and regulations vary from state to state. Students interested in becoming a midwife should check with the local midwifery organization of the state in which they wish to practice in order to learn about the laws which will affect them.

HANDS OF LIGHT STUDENTS

Our students are committed, self-motivated women who primarily want to become CPMs doing home-births. Some of our students have previous experience with birth, others have none. Students range from 18-65 years old. Some are mothers, some have careers, and most are employed. Some have a strong educational background and others have avoided academics because of previous negative experiences. All have a passion for helping women.
